EASY BIO and Optipharm MOU Signing for Expanding Exports of Bacteriophage-based Feed Additives

    EASY BIO has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Optipharm, a biotechnology company and an affiliate for bacteriophage-based feed additives.
 
    Under this MOU, the two companies will strengthen collaboration in R&D technology, marketing, and sales of bacteriophage solutions. It specifically intends to expand exports through Pathway Intermediates, EASY BIO’s integrated brand for feed additives.
 
    Optipharm invested 2 billion KRW (approximately 1.6 million USD) last year to establish a new feed additive production facility and completed a test run. The manufacturing capacity will increase by around three times based on powder as the hard work for company expansion is completed, making it possible to meet the demands of various customers.
 
    Both companies plan to expand their sales through exports and domestic OEM production. Customers from other countries visited the Optipharm in Osong, South Korea in November of last year and took a tour of the bacteriophage production facility as part of a global marketing campaign to encourage product registration in overseas strategic regions. We are establishing a foundation in Southeast Asia and the Middle East by exporting products of the initial volume.
 
   Bacteriophage-based feed additives are considered an alternative to the problem of antibiotic resistance worldwide. The following countries regulated or banned the use of antibiotic growth promoters by law: EU (2006), South Korea (2011), United States (2017), China (2020), and Thailand (2021). ProBe-Bac® is a cocktail product containing mixture of bacteriophages precisely selected against specific disease in swine and poultry. It is the latest bacteriophage solution from Pathway Intermediates and bacteriophages in ProBe-Bac have been developed by Optipharm through extensive research.
 
   Hyun-Il Kim (CEO of Optipharm) said, “We anticipate that demand for bacteriophage products will rise in the future as interest in eco-friendly food grows and government restrictions on the careless use of antibiotics and animal welfare are strengthened.” It will be the starting point to bring them together in one place.”
